  2020 Update  

  In February, Jemena appointed Ventia Utility Services (Ventia) as the principal contractor to complete the remediation works. Ventia are a leading environmental remediation business with this Project being their 20th large-scale gasworks remediation project. 

  Jemena has notified Wollongong City Council of the forthcoming remediation works in accordance with the State Environmental Planning Policy No. 55 – Remediation of Land (SEPP55) and committed to ensuring the works are successful and limit the impacts to surrounding businesses and residents. 

  Remediation of the Site 

  Ventia are currently in the planning phase of the works. The specifics of the methodology must be approved by the Site Auditor prior to commencement.  

  A high level overview of the works will be as follows:  

  Site Establishment and mobilisiation; 

  Excavation shoring and asset protection; 

  Construction of Emissions Control System (ECS); 

  Construction of Water Treatment Plant (WTP); 

  Assembly of Stage 1 Odour Control Enclosure (OCE) adjacent to Collegians;  

  Commence remediation of Area A; 

  Relocation of OCE to Stage 2 adjacent to rail line; 

  Commence remediation of Area B & C; 

  Site restoration, levelling and grading; and 

  Site Demobilisation.
